The Anion Gap is a clinical calculation that represents the difference between measured cations (positive ions) and measured anions (negative ions) in the blood. While the body's total charge is always neutral, a 'gap' in these common measurements helps doctors identify the presence of hidden acids, which is a vital step in diagnosing the cause of metabolic acidosis.

工作原理

The calculator subtracts the sum of Chloride and Bicarbonate from the Sodium concentration. You can optionally include Potassium in the cation sum, though most clinical protocols exclude it.
