Waist-to-Hip Ratio (WHR) Calculator – Health Risk Service | CalcTools

Calculate your waist-to-hip ratio (WHR) to assess body fat distribution and cardiovascular health risks. A key indicator of metabolic health.

While BMI provides a general overview of weight, it doesn't account for where fat is stored on the body. Research consistently shows that 'abdominal' or 'apple-shaped' obesity (visceral fat) carries a significantly higher risk for type 2 diabetes and heart disease than fat stored in the hips and thighs ('pear-shaped'). The Waist-to-Hip Ratio (WHR) is a powerful, simple metric used by the World Health Organization (WHO) to identify individuals at higher metabolic risk. Our WHR service helps you understand your body composition and what it means for your long-term health.

How it Works

The tool takes measurements of your waist (at its narrowest point or navel) and your hips (at the widest point of the buttocks) and calculates the ratio between them. It then compares this result to WHO guidelines to determine your health risk category.

Calculation Formula

WHR = Waist Circumference / Hip Circumference

Calculation Examples

1. **Male**: A waist of 95cm and hips of 100cm results in a WHR of **0.95**, indicating a moderate to high risk.

Why use this tool in your daily life?

This service empowers you to look beyond the scale. By monitoring your WHR, you can track the effectiveness of your fitness and nutrition plan in reducing dangerous visceral fat, providing a much clearer picture of your improving health than weight alone.
